Trump to Extend TikTok's Lifespan? New Statement from the Elected President
Donald Trump announced the possibility of a 90-day extension of the TikTok ban in the US, as reported by NewsBox.
The elected US president, Donald Trump, stated that he intends to propose a 90-day extension for TikTok’s ban from use in the country. In an interview with ABC News, he mentioned that he is 'working on a plan to finalize the next steps.'
Last week, the US Supreme Court upheld the law prohibiting TikTok if its owner, the Chinese company ByteDance, does not sell the platform by January 19. However, ByteDance has categorically declined to look for a buyer.
In response, TikTok representatives stated that, in case of missing guarantees from the owners, the service would be disabled for American users as early as the upcoming weekend. Simultaneously, Oracle’s management, which is responsible for storing user data from TikTok in the US, is also preparing to shut down its servers, Reuters reports, citing The Information.
