Inspired by Trump, deputy proposes renaming the Black Sea

Saratov regional assembly deputy Denis Bulanov has suggested renaming the Black Sea to the Russian Sea, citing historical names and drawing inspiration from Trump’s initiative on changing geographical names, reports NewsBox

Denis Bulanov, a deputy from the Communist Party in the Saratov Regional Duma, has proposed replacing the name of the Black Sea with Russian Sea. According to him, this proposal is influenced by Donald Trump's earlier suggestion to rename the Gulf of Mexico to the American Gulf. Bulanov claims that the name "Russian Sea" appears in ancient Russian chronicles and has deep historical roots.

The concept of reconsidering geographical names is gaining traction worldwide as nations aim to emphasize their historical and cultural identity, the deputy noted.

Bulanov believes that restoring the old name for the Black Sea will be a symbol of strengthening Russian identity.

When journalists asked how this initiative affects the countries bordering the Black Sea, the deputy responded that the new name is intended solely for domestic use in Russia and is not expected to be recognized by other countries.
