EBRD invested nearly a billion euros in Uzbekistan in 2024
In 2024, the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) invested €938 million into the economy of Uzbekistan. This marks the largest financing of projects by the bank in Central Asia, as reported by NewsBox.
The investment by the EBRD has made Uzbekistan the largest beneficiary of financial assistance from the bank in Central Asia. More than half of this amount was directed towards projects in the "green" economy sector, including the development of renewable energy and water-related technologies.
A portion of the investments was allocated for supporting energy and transport sectors. Funds were utilized for constructing solar power plants, transmission lines, and upgrading transport infrastructure. Significant attention was given to financing small businesses, as well as supporting entrepreneurs from rural areas, women, and youth.
Additionally, one of the major projects — a loan of $66.4 million — was awarded to JSC "National Electric Networks of Uzbekistan," aimed at constructing a power transmission line extending 230 km with a capacity of 500 kV in the Navoi region. The project is expected to address existing network issues, reduce electricity outages, and integrate renewable energy sources.
Another significant project involves financing of $238 million for rehabilitating the transport corridor and building a bridge over the Amudarya River in the Khorezm region. This project will improve transport connections in the area and contribute to the development of sustainable logistics in Central Asia.
It is also reported that the EBRD collaborates with the government of Uzbekistan on implementing reforms in sectors such as privatization, market development for renewable energy, and non-discriminatory practices, thereby strengthening the economic resilience of the republic.
