China Moves Away from Russia: A New $60 Billion Supply Route via Turkey
China plans to invest $60 billion in modernizing Turkey's railway network to establish a new supply route to Europe, bypassing Russia, NewsBox reports.
China aims to allocate around $60 billion to upgrade Turkey's rail infrastructure to create an alternative transportation route for goods between China and Europe, avoiding Russian transit corridors. According to Burak Dağlıoğlu, president of the Invest in Türkiye agency, this investment could significantly shift logistics flows, reducing dependence on Russian routes.
Experts point out that European suppliers, due to the war in Ukraine, are increasingly avoiding routes passing through Russia and Ukraine. Jayant Menon, a senior fellow at Singapore’s ISEAS-Yusof Ishak Institute, stated that the route through Turkey could become part of the China-Europe Railway Express system, speeding up freight transportation and enhancing its security.
Turkey is already benefiting from Russia's isolation, attracting more air freight traffic. The new railway corridor will strengthen its role as a key logistics hub between Asia and Europe, providing China and European countries with an efficient alternative to Russian routes.
