U.S. President Donald Trump has announced the potential implementation of additional sanctions against Russia if President Vladimir Putin refuses to engage in negotiations to end the war in Ukraine, reports NewsBox.

"It's a possibility," Trump remarked in response to a journalist's question about the prospects of increasing sanction pressure, speaking at a White House briefing.

The American leader recently expressed his intention to meet with Putin in the near future. He emphasized that the Russian president's reluctance to enter into a peace agreement is having a destructive impact on Russia itself, according to BBC.

"Putin is destroying Russia," Trump declared, adding that the United States will continue to work towards resolving the conflict.

Additionally, the U.S. President mentioned that Washington is considering providing additional weaponry to Kyiv. However, Trump declined to disclose the details of the planned assistance.

"We are talking with Zelensky. We plan to speak with President Putin very soon, and we will see how all this unfolds," said the American leader.

Trump's statements come amid ongoing international pressure on Moscow. Washington has repeatedly emphasized the need for a diplomatic solution to the conflict, yet hints at potential new sanctions suggest that the White House's patience with the Kremlin may be wearing thin.

Further U.S. actions will depend on the Russian leadership's readiness to engage in dialogue and seek a peaceful resolution to the crisis.
