U.S. President Donald Trump expressed his desire to hold talks with Vladimir Putin as soon as possible to bring an end to the military conflict in Ukraine. He made this statement at the World Economic Forum in Davos, reports NewsBox.

Trump emphasized that his main goal is to save human lives, writes BBC.

"I am very eager to meet with President Putin to bring this war to a swift conclusion. This is not a matter of economics or politics; it's a matter of millions of lives. Young lives are being lost on the battlefield, and this is unacceptable," the president noted.

In his address, Trump also mentioned a phone conversation with Chinese leader Xi Jinping, during which they discussed Beijing's potential role in resolving the conflict.

"China holds significant influence in this matter, and I hope they will help us end this war. We will work with them," he declared.

When asked if the war could end within the next year, Trump replied:

"Ukraine is ready for a deal. Now, we need to see what Russia will say."

Additionally, on Truth Social, the U.S. President urged Putin to cease hostilities and warned of possible new economic sanctions against Russia.

Trump also expressed doubts about the accuracy of the reported casualty figures.

"Far more people have been killed in the war than is being reported. I have seen footage of destroyed homes, only to later read in the news that only two people were wounded. It's not true," he concluded his remarks.

This is not the first time Trump has expressed a desire to seek an end to the war, highlighting the importance of diplomacy and international cooperation. His remarks in Davos serve as another call to find ways to stop the bloodshed, but the response from world leaders to these statements remains unknown.
