Tragic Accident in Guatemala: Bus Falls from Bridge, Over 50 Dead

Guatemala is in mourning following a horrific accident that occurred on February 10th in the nation's capital. A bus traveling on a busy highway from San Agustín Acasaguastlán to Guatemala City fell off a bridge, claiming the lives of more than fifty people, reports NewsBox.

According to the capital's fire department, the tragedy resulted in the deaths of 36 men and 15 women. Rescuers are continuing their efforts at the scene, recovering bodies from the wreckage of the bus, which partially ended up in a creek flowing beneath the bridge, writes Reuters.

Ricardo Quiñonez, the mayor of Guatemala City, responded promptly to the tragedy by deploying all emergency services to the crash site and organizing alternative routes to bypass the closed section of the road.

President Bernardo Arévalo of Guatemala declared a three-day national mourning period to honor the victims of this dreadful tragedy. The circumstances and causes of the accident are currently under investigation.
