Stephen King Calls for the Cancelation of the Oscar Awards Ceremony Due to Wildfires in Los Angeles
Renowned author Stephen King has called for the cancelation of this year's Oscar award ceremony due to the devastating wildfires in Los Angeles, opting not to participate in the voting for the nominees, reports NewsBox.
Stephen King will not only refrain from voting for the nominees for the Oscar award this year, but he also believes the ceremony should be canceled. On January 16, the author publicly shared his opinion on social media platform Bluesky.
"This year I will not be voting for the nominees for the Oscar," King wrote. "In my opinion, the ceremony should be canceled. There is no time for celebrations while Los Angeles is engulfed in flames."
The Hollywood community is facing the aftermath of the devastating wildfires. In connection with this, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences moved the voting for the Oscar awards to January 17, while the announcement of the nominees has been postponed to January 23, reports CNN.
King is not the only notable figure supporting this idea, as actors Jim Smart and Patricia Arquette have also publicly backed the call for the cancelation of the ceremony.
The ceremonies for the Grammy and Oscar awards are scheduled to take place on February 2 and March 2, respectively.
