Petition for Denmark to Buy California Gains Popularity

A humorous petition is gaining traction online, urging Denmark to purchase the state of California from the United States for a trillion dollars. As of now, the petition has gathered more than 200,000 signatures, reports NewsBox.
The creators of the petition jokingly claim that Denmark is in need of "more sunshine, palm trees, and rollerblades." They propose buying California from Donald Trump, pointing out several benefits for Denmark, such as an improved climate, an uninterrupted supply of avocados, and technological leadership, writes CNN.
The authors also assert that Denmark could "protect the free world" and rename Disneyland to "Hans Christian Andersen Land," featuring Mickey Mouse in a viking helmet.
To realize this ambitious idea, a trillion dollars (give or take a few billion) would be needed, along with sending Denmark’s best negotiators – the heads of Lego and actors from the series "Borgen."
The appearance of the petition is linked to previous statements by Donald Trump expressing interest in acquiring Greenland, a semi-autonomous Danish territory. Despite a categorical rejection by Greenland and Danish officials, debates about the island's future continue, fueled by growing talks of its independence. In his New Year's speech, Greenland’s Prime Minister emphasized the need to break free from "the shackles of colonialism."
Though clearly satirical, the petition reflects public interest in the political and economic relations between Denmark and the United States, as well as Greenland’s future.
