Musk's Power? DOGE Gains Access to Key U.S. Government Structures

After Donald Trump's inauguration, the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), led by Elon Musk, began operating in the USA. Although officially established to optimize government operations, it has already seized control over key agencies, leading to significant layoffs of officials, reports NewsBox.
With Donald Trump's rise to power in the USA, a new organization was established—the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), headed by Elon Musk. Formally, this entity was created for 18 months to streamline bureaucracy and enhance the efficiency of government functions. However, in practice, DOGE has already effectively taken control over essential federal agencies, causing concern among officials and legal experts.
DOGE is not part of the official government structure and is not accountable to Congress. Nonetheless, its representatives have already embedded themselves within the Office of Personnel Management (OPM), the General Services Administration (GSA), and the Department of the Treasury. These organizations have seen significant employee layoffs, with some positions filled by personnel from Musk’s companies and Silicon Valley. For instance, young programmers previously interning at Palantir, Neuralink, and SpaceX are now working at OPM.
One of DOGE's most controversial actions involved interference in the operations of the United States Agency for International Development (USAID). After days of chaos and mass dismissals, the agency's website went offline, and its functions were transferred to the State Department. Elon Musk declared that USAID is "beyond restoration" and must "cease to exist," a statement fully endorsed by Trump.
The department's intervention in federal services' operations has alarmed unions and experts. Many officials describe the situation as a "government takeover," noting that Musk acts more like a corporate CEO than a public official. Meanwhile, DOGE continues to expand its influence, with its future actions remaining unpredictable.
