EU Prepares Massive Military Aid Package for Ukraine Worth Billions of Euros

The European Union countries are in active discussions to provide Ukraine with one of the largest military aid packages since the conflict began, reports NewsBox.
According to preliminary estimates, the aid sum will be no less than 6 billion euros, as reported by Politico.
As per the publication's information, the package might include over 1.5 million artillery shells, in addition to advanced air defense systems. It is expected that the aid announcement will coincide with the visit of EU commissioners to Ukraine, planned for February 24 – the anniversary of the large-scale Russian invasion.
"Six billion euros is just the starting point," a diplomatic source informed Politico, adding that the total value of the package could increase to 10 billion euros if EU member states are able to provide additional weaponry from their own stocks.
EU foreign ministers plan to discuss the proposed aid package for Ukraine during a meeting in Brussels next week.
One diplomat explained that the aid to Ukraine could be provided both in the form of military equipment and financial contributions. Each EU country's contribution will be proportional to its gross national income.
Analysts believe that providing military assistance will enable Ukraine to bolster its defenses on the front lines and enhance the protection of cities against air attacks. Additionally, it will strengthen the EU's position as a participant in future peace negotiations.
However, as Politico highlights, it remains unclear whether the aid package will be approved by the EU as a whole or will be supported by a coalition of individual countries. One diplomat expressed doubts about a unanimous approval, citing opposition from Hungary.
Ukraine's dependence on European assistance is growing
Following Donald Trump's ascent to power in the United States, Ukraine has increasingly relied on aid from European partners. The new American administration intends to place the primary responsibility for security guarantees for Ukraine on Europe. The possibility of sending a European peacekeeping contingent to Ukraine is being considered.
The European Union is committed to continuing to provide Ukraine with comprehensive support, including military aid, to strengthen its defense capabilities and ensure stability in the region.
