Colombian President Calls for Cocaine Legalization

Colombian President Gustavo Petro has proposed legalizing cocaine, arguing that it is no more dangerous than strong alcoholic beverages. In his view, such a move could help combat the drug trade, while the primary threat to global security is posed by fentanyl, reports NewsBox.
President Gustavo Petro of Colombia has initiated a proposal to legalize the sale of cocaine, comparing it to alcoholic drinks. At a Council of Ministers meeting, he stated that the ban on cocaine is politically motivated due to its production in Latin America, whereas whiskey, which is equally harmful, is not prohibited.
Petro believes that the principal threat to global security is not cocaine but fentanyl, which leads to numerous deaths. He suggests that selling cocaine legally, similar to wine, could help defeat the drug trade and reduce crime rates.
