The U.S. Coast Guard has released an audio recording that, according to experts, features the acoustic footprint of the Titan submersible explosion that occurred in June 2023, reports NewsBox.

The sound was captured by a passive acoustic recorder from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), located roughly 900 miles from the disaster site, writes CNN.

To recap, on June 18, 2023, the Titan submersible, operated by OceanGate Expeditions during its mission to the Titanic wreck, suffered catastrophic failure. All five passengers onboard tragically perished: Stockton Rush, the founder and CEO of OceanGate, businessman Shahzada Dawood and his 19-year-old son Suleman Dawood, businessman Hamish Harding, and French diver Paul-Henri Nargeolet.

The audio recording published by the Coast Guard's Marine Board of Investigation is part of an ongoing investigation into the circumstances of the tragedy and OceanGate's practices.

In September, the Coast Guard and the National Transportation Safety Board conducted a comprehensive investigation involving numerous witnesses and experts. Testimonies were presented about irregularities in the development and operation processes of the 23,000-pound submersible, for which OceanGate charged passengers around $250,000 for a dive.

On June 18, 2023, the Titan lost communication with its support vessel. When it failed to resurface, an international search and rescue operation began. Authorities concluded that the vessel experienced a "catastrophic implosion"—a sudden internal destruction caused by extreme pressure. "Presumed human remains" found near the wreckage on the ocean floor were matched to the deceased passengers through DNA testing.
