American Firm Discovers DeepSeek Data Breach

Wiz, a cybersecurity company based in New York, has identified a significant vulnerability in the security system of the Chinese AI startup, DeepSeek. According to Wiz, over a million lines of DeepSeek's confidential data were accidentally exposed on the internet due to a random error, reports NewsBox.
Wiz stated that scanning DeepSeek's infrastructure revealed unprotected data, including digital program keys and chat logs. These logs contained inquiries sent by users to DeepSeek's free AI-based assistant, writes Reuters.
Wiz's Chief Technology Officer, Ami Luttwak, noted that DeepSeek responded promptly to address the issue after being informed.
"They resolved the vulnerability in less than an hour. However, it was so easy to find this data that we cannot rule out that others might have already discovered it," stated Luttwak.
At the time, DeepSeek had not commented on the situation.
The data breach comes amidst DeepSeek's growing success and international concerns it raises. The startup's near-instant success following the launch of its AI assistant has stirred excitement in China and anxiety in the USA. DeepSeek's ability to compete with OpenAI's offerings at lower costs challenges the sustainability and profitability of American tech giants like Nvidia and Microsoft.
Earlier this week, DeepSeek surpassed its American competitor ChatGPT in downloads from Apple's App Store, sparking a sell-off in tech stocks worldwide.
This incident underscores the importance of data security in the rapidly evolving field of artificial intelligence and serves as a reminder to companies of the necessity for stringent control over confidential information.
