Was the oldest prisoner in Russia killed in an Altai Krai penal colony?

An 84-year-old man named Alexander Aniskin, known as the oldest prisoner in Russia, has died in a penal colony in the Altai Krai. He was found with severe injuries, and one of the theories being investigated is an assault by his cellmates, reports NewsBox.

Alexander Aniskin passed away at a correctional facility in the Altai Krai. At the time of his death, he was the oldest inmate in Russia.

Doctors recorded that he suffered a closed head injury, brain swelling and bruising, as well as a massive hematoma. Investigators are exploring the possibility of an attack on him by fellow inmates.

Aniskin was serving an eight-year sentence handed down in 2020 for the murder of an acquaintance in an apartment building in Biysk. The crime occurred in July 2019: according to Aniskin, the man broke into his apartment and began beating him. During the struggle, Aniskin, who was holding a knife, accidentally wounded his attacker. However, a forensic examination showed about ten stab wounds in the chest, ribs, and lungs, resulting in significant blood loss and the victim's death.

Aniskin did not admit his guilt and refused to apologize to the victim's family. In 2022, the court ordered him to pay the victim's brother 420,000 rubles in compensation.
