In an interview with the New York Post, U.S. President Donald Trump revealed that he had spoken over the phone with Russian leader Vladimir Putin. The main focus of their discussion, according to Trump, was the war in Ukraine.
Trump did not specify when exactly this conversation took place. When pressed by journalists about the number of such calls, he avoided answering directly, stating, "I'd rather not comment on that."
According to Trump, Putin wants the fighting to cease and "for people to stop dying." The American politician also asserted that he has a specific plan to resolve the conflict.
Next week, a security conference will take place in Munich, where U.S. Vice President Jay Dee Vance is expected to meet with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky. Trump himself has hinted that he might soon conduct personal negotiations with the Ukrainian leader.
Additionally, Trump expressed his intention to strike a $500 million deal with Zelensky. He indicated that the agreement would entail U.S. access to Ukraine's reserves of rare earth metals and gas in exchange for security guarantees for Kyiv.
