On Sakhalin Island, around three hundred fishermen found themselves trapped on a drifting ice floe after an unexpected break in the ice occurred on the Dolinka River. The incident took place near the village of Malki, reports NewsBox.

Some people managed to reach the shore by jumping over the newly formed water gap, but others were not so fortunate – they became stranded as the ice floe began drifting into the open sea, according to Amur Mash.

Six rescuers have been dispatched in four vehicles to assist. Additionally, a Mi-8 helicopter is preparing to take off from Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk and may be used for evacuating the fishermen. The rescue operation is ongoing.
