The Russian Ministry of Defense Proposed Recognizing Individuals with Syphilis and Psychoses Fit for Service

The Russian Ministry of Defense has proposed changing the medical examination criteria for conscripts and military personnel, allowing individuals with syphilis, hypertension, and psychoses to be deemed fit for service. This move would enable the mobilization of more citizens, reports NewsBox.

The Ministry of Defense of Russia has suggested a revision of the medical fitness criteria for military service, which could lead to enlisting individuals with chronic conditions such as syphilis, hypertension, and mental disorders. The corresponding amendments to the 'Regulation on Military Medical Expertise' appeared in December on the legal acts portal.

The document states that experience from medical assessments during the period of the Special Military Operation (SMO) revealed "inaccuracies" in diagnostic criteria that require reevaluation. Now, conscripts with primary, secondary, and latent syphilis will have their fitness category altered from "V" (limited fitness) to "B-4" (fit with minor restrictions).

The changes will also affect contract servicemen and those mobilized, who have been diagnosed with moderate endogenous psychosis or neurotic disorders. Previously, these individuals were categorized as "D" (unfit), but now they will be able to serve with a "V" (limited fitness) classification.

Amendments are also revising diagnostic criteria for skin conditions. For instance, psoriasis and eczema will be considered widespread only if they affect more than 10% of the body surface, and chronic urticaria will require proof of ineffective treatment over four weeks.
