Scandal in Sverdlovsk Region: Mayor Challenges Her Own Election

A scandal is brewing in Berezovsky around the mayoral election: Yulia Maslakova, who initially won the deputies' vote but was considered a technical candidate, has taken legal action to contest her election. She stated that she is not ready to work in a conflict-ridden environment, reports NewsBox.

In the city of Berezovsky (Sverdlovsk region), the elected mayor, Yulia Maslakova, filed a lawsuit seeking to overturn the voting results that placed her in the position. The publication "7x7" confirms this information, citing attorney Andrey Elantsev, who also participated in the elections. He views this lawsuit as a tactic to delay the appointment of a new city leader for the benefit of the current mayor, Yevgeny Pistsov.

On January 30, the city council deputies of Berezovsky mostly favored Maslakova, with 17 deputies voting for her and only six for Pistsov. However, even before the results were finalized, Maslakova attempted to withdraw her candidacy but was told it was too late to do so.

After being elected, Maslakova refused to take office, citing an unwillingness to work in a "conflict atmosphere." She is now demanding that the vote be declared invalid, which could prolong the process of forming a new city administration.
