Russia’s Ministry of Defense Reports Capture of Key Ukrainian 'Fortress'

The Russian Ministry of Defense announced the raising of the Russian flag in the center of Velyka Novosilka, a key strategic defense position for the Ukrainian Armed Forces, reports NewsBox. 

The Russian Ministry of Defense declared that the Russian flag has been raised in the center of Velyka Novosilka, designating this settlement as one of the most crucial fortified points for Ukrainian troops. According to the ministry, assault units have split the settlement into two parts, encircled the Ukrainian forces, and commenced their elimination.

The statement also emphasizes that Velyka Novosilka remains the last major logistical hub and fortified position for the Ukrainian Armed Forces in the Southern Donetsk direction.

The Ukrainian OSINT project DeepState reported on the evening of January 23 that the situation for the Ukrainian Armed Forces in this area is severe. According to their data, Russian infantry is actively attacking the eastern outskirts of the settlement, achieving some progress in their advance.
