Russia Invests €2 Billion in Cyberattacks Ahead of German Elections - Bild

According to Bild, Russia has spent over €2 billion on cyberattacks and misinformation campaigns leading up to the federal elections in Germany, scheduled for February 2025, reports NewsBox.

Based on data from the report by the Federal Office for Information Security (BSI) for 2024, Russia allocated more than €2 billion towards cyberattacks and the spread of disinformation aimed at undermining trust in the German government. Bild published this information amid preparations for the Bundestag elections, set for February 2025.

German intelligence agencies have already detected attempts to hack websites and servers containing voter data or providing election information.

Furthermore, Russian intelligence is actively using hundreds of thousands of fake accounts and websites to criticize the German government. These resources also lend support to populist parties like the "Alternative for Germany" (AfD) and the "Sahra Wagenknecht Alliance," which share pro-Russian sentiments.

Experts warn that such activities could significantly influence public opinion and destabilize Germany’s electoral system.
