Russia and Iran Sign Strategic Partnership Agreement

Russia and Iran have signed a strategic cooperation agreement aimed at expanding trade, military, and energy ties between the two countries, reports NewsBox.

Russian President Vladimir Putin and Iranian leader Masoud Pezeshkian have concluded a long-term agreement on strategic partnership. According to Putin, the signed document has a "comprehensive" nature and includes significant objectives for the development of cooperation between the two states.

The agreement covers such areas as trade-economic interaction, energy collaboration, and joint work in the field of agriculture and safety. According to information provided by the Iranian sent to the RF Kazem Jalali, the text of the document consists of 47 articles addressing key aspects of cooperation.

According to The New York Times, unlike similar agreements between Russia and other countries, this document does not include a section on mutual defense, making it unique.

Before the signing of the agreement, the Iranian supreme leader Ali Khamenei sent his top advisor Ali Larijani to Moscow. As reported by The Times, citing a source in Western intelligence, he held secret negotiations with Russian representatives aimed at strengthening military cooperation and promoting Iran's nuclear program.

The new agreement replaces a previous one signed in 2001, which was aimed at significantly enhancing ties between Moscow and Tehran and strengthening their positions in the international arena.
