Millions for a Death: War Widow Suspected of Sham Marriage for Money

An employee at a military enlistment office in Bryansk region is suspected of entering a sham marriage with a participant in the Special Military Operation to claim compensation and inheritance after his death, reports NewsBox.

A military enlistment officer from Bryansk region, identified only as Elena, found herself at the center of a scandal. In October 2023, she married Sergei, who signed a military contract and was deployed to fight in Ukraine the day after their wedding. Six months later, Sergei died.

Three days after his funeral, Elena applied for a compensation of 5 million rubles and also claimed rights to the deceased's property. However, Sergei's brother, his only close relative, believes the marriage was a sham, as the couple did not live together. He has filed a lawsuit, alleging that Elena's actions were premeditated.
