Full Abortion Ban Possible in Vologda Region

The authorities of the Vologda region are considering the possibility of a total ban on abortions, including in private clinics. Governor Georgiy Filimonov stated that this issue will be discussed with medical organizations and representatives of the Russian Orthodox Church, reports NewsBox.
The Vologda regional authorities plan to completely prohibit abortions, including in private healthcare facilities. This announcement was made by the governor of the region, Georgiy Filimonov, during a governmental meeting.
Filimonov noted that the initiative is being developed in cooperation with governmental bodies, public organizations, and representatives of the Russian Orthodox Church. A meeting is scheduled at the end of February with leaders of private medical clinics to discuss their refusal to perform abortions.
We will focus on the necessity to cease performing abortions even in private clinics. I emphasize: to cease performing abortions even in private clinics, — highlighted the governor.
However, the video broadcast of the meeting was soon removed, and the authorities have not provided further clarification on the prospects of implementing the ban.
