Forbes Journalist Faces 6 Years in Prison for Reposts

The prosecution is seeking a six-year prison sentence for Forbes journalist Sergey Mingazov, accusing him of disseminating "fake news" about the Russian army due to reposts of materials on the events in Bucha, reports NewsBox

Russian journalist Sergey Mingazov, who has previously contributed to Forbes and other major publications, might receive a six-year prison sentence. The prosecution demands his incarceration on charges of spreading false information about the Russian military.

The criminal case was initiated based on his reposts from Telegram channels, including Faridaily and "Siberia. Realities," and posts by Dmitry Kolezev, which mentioned the events in Bucha. The investigators claim these publications contradict the official stance of the Russian Ministry of Defense and could "cause fear and anxiety" among citizens.

Furthermore, during the investigation, authorities examined Mingazov's social media and found posts in support of Alexei Navalny and Sergey Furgal.

At the time of the case's initiation, Mingazov's Telegram channel had fewer than 500 subscribers, and the publications that led to the criminal charges received no more than 150 views.

Mingazov was detained in April 2023 and has since been under house arrest. Before this, he worked with publications like Forbes, "Vedomosti," "Kommersant," TASS, and "Komsomolskaya Pravda."
