Fonbet CEO Detained: What’s Known About Anokhin's Case?

Sergey Anokhin, the CEO of the betting company Fonbet and former vice-president of the Russian Football Union (RFU), has been detained in Moscow. Preliminary reports suggest he is suspected of bribing a security services officer, according to NewsBox

In Moscow, the detention of Sergey Anokhin, the CEO of the betting company Fonbet and former vice-president of the RFU, has been reported. According to initial information, he is suspected of offering a bribe to a security officer. It is preliminarily estimated that he gave around 50 million rubles as a bribe to an official, who has also been detained. 

Sergey Anokhin holds one of the key positions within the Russian football community. He previously led the Moscow Football Federation, was a member of the Executive Committee of the RFU, and headed the mass football committee of the organization. From 2020 to 2021, he served as the president of the FC Khimki football club. In 2022, he was appointed as the CEO of Fonbet.

Anokhin’s arrest comes several months after the detention of FC Khimki's investor, Tufan Sadigov, who was charged with fraud in December 2024.
