Eight Shots Fired at Police Officer: Former Official's Son Detained in Dagestan

An attack on a police officer took place in Dagestan: he was beaten, his weapon was taken, and several shots were fired. One of the suspects is the son of a former official, reports NewsBox.

In Derbent, three local residents attacked a 28-year-old police officer who was on duty. According to SHOT, the assailants beat the officer, took his service weapon, and fired it eight times.

The incident occurred on the street of the 345th Dagestan Rifle Division. After the attack, the criminals fled in a black Cadillac. The officer was in critical condition and was taken to intensive care, where doctors are fighting for his life.

Later, law enforcement detained the suspects in the Tabasaran district. Preliminary information identifies one of them as 37-year-old Sandro Shikhmagomedov, the son of a former district head. Sources claim he was under the influence of narcotics during the attack.

The detainees face charges of attempted murder of a police officer and weapon theft. They could face a sentence up to life imprisonment.

Shikhmagomedov Jr. has previously been involved in criminal activities and is allegedly linked to local criminal groups. He was also suspected of involvement in a car bombing near a police headquarters in 2013.
