On the night of January 31, Volgograd came under a massive drone assault. It is believed that the primary targets of these attacks were the oil refinery, oil depot, and thermal power station. Local residents reported on social media about these events. Currently, there is no official data on potential damages.
According to witnesses, powerful explosions were heard in the Krasnoarmeysky district, where the "LUKOIL Volgogradneftepererabotka" refinery is located. Residents shared their experiences on social networks, claiming that the shockwaves were strong enough to shake buildings.
The Ukrainian Telegram channel Supernova posted a video capturing the loud sound of a drone flying by followed by an explosion. The video’s author also provided their address, which is approximately one and a half kilometers from the refinery site.
This refinery has already been targeted by Ukrainian drone attacks at least three times last year — in February, July, and September. It spans several square kilometers and is surrounded by industrial facilities, including the oil depot and Volgograd thermal power plant.
