DeepState Confirms Capture of Velyka Novosilka by Russian Forces

The Ukrainian project DeepState has updated its map of the front line, indicating that the Ukrainian army has lost control of the town of Velyka Novosilka. This small but strategically important locality is positioned at the junction of the Donetsk, Zaporizhzhia, and Dnipropetrovsk regions and has been a hotspot since the onset of the full-scale conflict, reports NewsBox.

The Russian Ministry of Defense announced the capture of Velyka Novosilka on January 26th; however, the Ukrainian military command has not yet officially confirmed the loss of the town, writes BBC Russian.

Intense fighting for this locality lasted for about two months. Recently, the Ukrainian garrison found itself semi-surrounded, and military analysts warned of the risk of complete encirclement. Despite this, Ukrainian forces claim that their units managed to make an organized withdrawal from the town.

Before the Russian invasion, Velyka Novosilka had a population of over five thousand people. Today, according to Ukrainian military sources, all that remains of the town are ruins.
