Bastrykin Proposes 14 as Minimum Age for Drug-related Crimes

The head of Russia's Investigative Committee, Alexander Bastrykin, has proposed lowering the age for criminal liability related to drug trafficking to 14. Additionally, he advocated for banning the sale of any alcoholic beverages to individuals under the age of 21, reports NewsBox.

Chairman of the Investigative Committee of Russia, Alexander Bastrykin, put forward an initiative to tighten anti-drug and anti-alcohol laws. During a meeting of the expanded board of the Investigative Committee, he suggested lowering the age for criminal responsibility for drug distribution from 16 to 14.

Moreover, Bastrykin stated the necessity to implement a ban on the sale of all alcoholic drinks (including beer and low-alcohol products) to young people under the age of 21. He emphasized that such measures would help reduce alcohol consumption levels among the youth.

His proposals sparked public debate and could serve as a basis for legislative changes in the near future.
