Washington Post: How Protasevich Became the Face of Lukashenko's Campaign

The Washington Post called Roman Protasevich the head of Alexander Lukashenko's election campaign. Protasevich himself sarcastically remarked that he was hearing about his new "position" for the first time, reports NewsBox.

The American newspaper The Washington Post, in an article about the re-election of Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko, claimed that Roman Protasevich, a former blogger-turned-propagandist, is leading his campaign. The publication reminded readers that in May 2021, Protasevich became embroiled in a scandal when his Ryanair flight was forced to land in Minsk, after which he was arrested. Subsequently, he was pardoned by Lukashenko after publicly denouncing his former allies.

There is no evidence provided by The Washington Post to support their assertion. Protasevich humorously commented on the article: "Honestly, I've been laughing uncontrollably for a few minutes. Apparently, they're listing me as the head of a country's PR campaign for the first time."

It's noted that recently Protasevich has been actively posting about meetings with well-known Belarusian political prisoners, such as Maria Kolesnikova and Viktor Babariko.
