U.S. vs. EU? U.S. Vice President Accuses European Leaders of Undermining Democracy

At a conference in Munich, U.S. Vice President Jay D. Vance stated that the primary threat to Europe is not external enemies, but an internal crisis of values. He sharply criticized EU policies, emphasizing that the U.S. will stand up for the freedoms of Europeans, reports NewsBox.

During his speech at the Munich Security Conference, U.S. Vice President Jay D. Vance stated that the main threat to Europe does not come from Russia or China, but from the erosion of its own values. He harshly criticized the EU's policies, noting that abandoning democratic principles and limiting freedom of speech pose a serious danger.

As an example, Vance highlighted the situation in Romania, where the victory of a "problematic" candidate for Brussels caused dissatisfaction among European officials. He reminded that after World War II, the U.S. and Europe agreed to defend democracy and freedoms, but now Washington observes with concern the sanctions and blocks over "hate speech." According to him, in Germany, one might be fined for criticizing feminists, and in the UK, a local resident was charged for praying outside an abortion clinic.

The politician stated that he came to Europe not just to observe, but to offer an alternative. He said that changes have occurred in the U.S., and the new administration disagrees with the current EU trajectory. He also mentioned that Washington is ready to defend the democratic freedoms of Europeans, despite differences with Brussels.

Vance also commented on the Romanian elections, where the outcomes were annulled following the discovery of online promotional materials supporting the pro-Russian candidate Kelin Djordjescu. In the opinion of the U.S. Vice President, democracy should not be so fragile that it can be undermined by the funding of political ads from the internet.

The Munich Security Conference began today and will continue until February 16. Around 60 state leaders are participating. Key events include a planned meeting between Jay D. Vance and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky. Previously, Donald Trump announced possible talks between U.S., Russian, and Ukrainian representatives at the forum. However, organizers noted that Russian officials have not been accredited and therefore cannot attend the summit.
