Revenge Act? Man Behind Quran Burning Shot in Sweden

An Iraqi national, Salwan Momika, who publicly burned the Quran in the center of Stockholm in 2023, was shot dead in Sweden, reports NewsBox.

The body of Salwan Momika, an Iraqi native known for burning the Quran in downtown Stockholm in the summer of 2023, was discovered in Sweden. The man was shot in an apartment complex in the residential district of Hovsjö.

According to witnesses, several shots were heard in the building in the evening, and shortly after, there was information circulating on social media that the attack had been streamed live. However, there is no official confirmation of this yet.

Swedish authorities have confirmed that the deceased was indeed Salwan Momika. His actions a year ago sparked massive protests in Iraq, where angry demonstrators stormed the Swedish embassy building.

Momika's act resonated beyond the Islamic world. The head of Chechnya, Ramzan Kadyrov, vehemently condemned him, calling him a "satanist" and demanding punishment. In Sweden itself, a criminal case was initiated against him, but the investigation was closed due to the suspect's death.

Swedish police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the murder, but there have been no reports of any arrests in connection with the case so far.
