Nobel Laureates Urge Trump to Advocate for the Release of Political Prisoners in Belarus

31 Nobel laureates have urged Donald Trump to advocate for the release of all political prisoners in Belarus. An open letter, released on the website of Belarusian political analyst Dmitry Bolkunets, notes that over 1,400 prisoners of conscience are currently held in Belarusian jails, including Nobel Peace Prize recipient Ales Bialiatski, as reported by NewsBox.

A group of 31 Nobel Prize winners has appealed to U.S. President Donald Trump, requesting his help in securing the release of political detainees in Belarus. The open letter containing this appeal was published on the website of Belarusian political expert Dmitry Bolkunets.

Among the signees of the appeal are writer Svetlana Alexievich, human rights advocate Aleksandra Matviychuk, co-founder of the “Novaya Gazeta” Dmitry Muratov, poet Herta Müller, and other noted figures.

According to human rights organizations, over 1,400 political prisoners are currently held in Belarusian prisons, including Nobel Peace Prize laureate Ales Bialiatski.

We call on world leaders, public figures, and all people of conscience to support the campaign for the release of prisoners of conscience in Belarus. The fate of thousands depends on decisive and coordinated actions by the international community, the appeal states.

Those who signed the letter express hope that Trump can exert pressure on the Belarusian authorities and that the international community will take concrete actions to free the detainees.
