Nicolas Sarkozy under House Arrest with Electronic Bracelet

Former French President Nicolas Sarkozy has begun serving his sentence for a corruption case — he has been assigned one year of restricted freedom with an electronic bracelet, reports NewsBox.

The former French leader Nicolas Sarkozy has been fitted with an electronic bracelet as part of his sentence for a corruption case. For the next year, the 70-year-old politician will only be allowed to leave his house between 8:00 AM and 8:00 PM, and until 9:30 PM on days when he has a court hearing for another case.

In 2021, Sarkozy was found guilty of corruption and influence peddling. The court established that in 2014 he attempted to bribe a judge in hopes of obtaining information about an investigation into the illegal financing of his 2007 presidential campaign.

The politician received a three-year prison sentence, with one year to be served and the remaining two as a suspended sentence. However, instead of time in prison, the court allowed him to serve his sentence under house arrest using an electronic monitoring bracelet.
