Lawsuit in The Hague: Lukashenko Accused of Repression Against Media

The organization "Reporters Without Borders" (RSF) has filed a lawsuit against Alexander Lukashenko in the International Criminal Court, accusing him of crimes against humanity for his repressive actions against journalists, reports NewsBox

"Reporters Without Borders" (RSF) has approached the International Criminal Court with a lawsuit against Alexander Lukashenko, accusing him of crimes against humanity. The reason cited is the systematic persecution of journalists in Belarus since the presidential elections in August 2020.

According to RSF, during this period, there have been 589 illegal detentions of 397 journalists, some of whom have been arrested multiple times.

Currently, 43 media representatives are still behind bars, and between 500 and 600 media workers have been forced to leave the country.

Belarus holds a global lead in the number of imprisoned journalists per capita. RSF urges the prosecutor of the International Criminal Court, Karim Khan, to initiate an investigation and bring those responsible to justice.
