German Parliament Passes Law Affecting Millions of Migrants

The German Parliament has backed a proposal by the Christian Democratic Union and the Christian Social Union aimed at significantly tightening migration policies. The new measures include stricter border controls and enhanced deportation procedures, reports NewsBox.

The Bundestag approved the proposal by the opposition alliance of the Christian Democratic Union (CDU) and the Christian Social Union (CSU), which imposes stricter immigration rules in Germany. According to Tagesschau, the bill was supported by a majority of delegates, including representatives from the far-right 'Alternative for Germany' (AfD). However, parties from the ruling coalition, namely the Social Democratic Party of Germany (SPD) and the 'Greens', opposed it.

Under the new provisions, regular passport checks are being introduced at Germany's land borders, and individuals without proper documentation will be barred from entering the country. The law also mandates stricter controls over deportable migrants and implements tougher measures against criminals among them and so-called 'dangerous individuals'.

The initiative has sparked intense debate within German society. Representatives from the SPD and the 'Greens' stated that the new law violates refugees' rights and creates additional obstacles for asylum seekers. However, proponents of the bill argue that the measures are necessary to ensure security and manage migration flows effectively.
