EU's Chief Diplomat on Belarus Elections: ‘This is a Mockery of Democracy’

Kaja Kallas criticized the elections in Belarus, calling them a sham and Alexander Lukashenko an illegitimate head of state, reports NewsBox. 

The head of the European Union's diplomatic service, Kaja Kallas, expressed criticism towards the presidential elections in Belarus, where Alexander Lukashenko is once again running for the position of head of state. In her post on the platform X, she highlighted that Lukashenko has been holding onto power for 30 years and continues to disregard democratic principles.

Tomorrow, he will reappoint himself through yet another phony election. This is a blatant mockery of democracy. Lukashenko holds no legitimacy, Kallas emphasized.

She also pointed out that, besides Lukashenko, the race includes little-known candidates, making the election outcome predictable.
