Bundestag Rejects Tough Measures Against Migrants

The Bundestag has rejected the proposal to tighten immigration policies put forward by the CDU/CSU opposition bloc. A majority of lawmakers voted against it, reports NewsBox.
Germany's parliament dismissed the initiative proposed by the CDU/CSU opposition alliance aimed at stricter immigration laws. The vote saw 350 Bundestag members opposing, 338 in favor, and five abstentions.
The proposal outlined increased control and a cap on incoming migrants, a measure the authors described as an "all-encompassing goal" for immigration policy.
One aspect of the proposal called for ending the right to family reunification for individuals whose asylum applications were denied but who were allowed to remain in Germany for other reasons.
The legislation also sought to grant additional powers to the police, enabling law enforcement to request the detention of individuals subject to deportation and to hold them in custody until their expulsion is executed.
