EU Intelligence Predicts Threat of Russian Attack in 2028

European intelligence services have issued a warning about a possible Russian attack on the EU in 2028, Estonia's former Prime Minister and current EU foreign policy chief, Kaja Kallas, stated at a European Defence Agency conference in Brussels, according to NewsBox.

Kaja Kallas, a former Estonian Prime Minister and the head of EU foreign policy, reported that national intelligence agencies of EU countries are cautioning about the potential for a Russian attack on the European Union starting in 2028. Her statement was made at a European Defence Agency conference in Brussels.

Kallas emphasized that the EU must be prepared for such a threat not only financially but also in terms of organization.

"Russia could test the EU's defense readiness in 3 to 5 years. The EU must not only spend money on preventing war but also prepare for it," Kallas noted.

According to 2023 data, the average defense spending among EU countries was 1.9% of GDP, while Russia allocates 9% for these purposes. Kallas remarked that insufficient defense investments could have serious consequences for Europe's security.

The head of Germany's foreign intelligence service, Bruno Kahl, and the Bundeswehr's Inspector General, Carsten Breuer, also spoke about the risks of an attack by Russia in the coming years. They believe the Russian army could be entirely ready for an offensive by the decade's end.

Previously, NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte called on alliance countries to increase defense spending to 5% of GDP, although many NATO member states consider this politically and economically unfeasible.
