Azerbaijan Prepares Lawsuit Against Russia Over AZAL Plane Crash

Azerbaijan is planning to file a lawsuit against Russia in the international court over the AZAL plane crash. The country's authorities claim that the attack originated from a Russian military base and are demanding an official acknowledgment of responsibility from Moscow, reports NewsBox.

Baku is preparing a lawsuit against Russia in connection with the crash of an AZAL Embraer E190 aircraft. According to the APA agency, an investigation has found that the aircraft was fired upon from a military base in Khankala near Grozny. Sources indicate that Azerbaijani authorities know who gave the order and what weapon was used.

The statement notes that evidence is being collected and an official evidential base is being formed for filing the lawsuit in international courts. However, Baku emphasizes that the door to dialogue with Moscow remains open. Azerbaijan is prepared to take further action if Russia does not acknowledge its responsibility.

Earlier, the Kazakh government commission presented preliminary findings of their investigation. An examination of the wreckage revealed characteristic damage indicating external impact. The report mentions destruction in the tail section, wings, and engine.

Reuters also reported that a fragment of a "Pantsir-S" air defense missile, presumably Russian, was found at the crash site.

The disaster occurred on December 25, 2024, near Aktau. 38 people died, 29 passengers were rescued. Azerbaijan's President Ilham Aliyev demanded Moscow acknowledge its responsibility, while Vladimir Putin apologized, stating the tragedy happened in Russian airspace.

Additionally, Baku sent a diplomatic note to Moscow regarding the cessation of the "Russian House" activities in Azerbaijan due to lack of registration.
